Unlike the USA, which has individual standards to deal with mechanical punch presses, hydraulic punch presses, and brake presses, in Canada, we have one standard that deals with all of them.
What's New in CSA Z142-10?
CSA Z142-10 Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Safeguarding Requirements have recently been published and has some significant changes from the previous edition. We strongly recommend that users of power presses in Canada purchase and understand the contents of this new code.
Significant Changes Include:
- Direct drive (servo) press description and requirements
- Machines included in the code (and those excluded)
- Continuous-on-demand control requirements
- Requirements for pressurizing hydraulic tie rod nuts
- Use of laser actuated active opto-electronic protective devices
- Requirements for slow speed motion on brake presses
- Elimination of radio frequency capacitance devices as safeguarding
- Use and requirements of ram locks as blocking devices
Training Program Objectives
The goal is to understand the main requirements of CSA Z142-10 and the changes made from the previous Standard. Our training covers:
- Parts and function of conventional mechanical, servo, hydraulic, and pneumatic presses
- Responsibilities of employers
- Press initiation circuits and control devices
- Specific press component parts for safe operation
- Maintenance requirements for hydraulic nuts on tie rods
- Safeguarding requirements (including laser devices)
- Safety distances & Training requirements
- Energy isolation including ram blocks and locks
- Requirements of an emergency plan (entrapment rescue)
- Proper use of dies
Suggested Participants
Managers, supervisors, group leaders, safety professionals, engineers, and health & safety committee members.
