- Reduce scrap
- Reduce accidents and damage to machinery and tooling
Course Overview
- Understanding the legal requirements of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
- Key points of the Canadian Standards Association Code for Power Press Operation: Health, Safety, and Safeguarding Requirements. (CSA Z14210)
- Parts of the mechanical punch press/brake press, advanced understanding of the parts of the press (crankshaft, gears, ram adjustment, counterbalance system, brake monitor etc,)
- Parts of the hydraulic press, advanced understanding of the parts of the press (reservoir, hydraulic cylinders, etc,)
- How to conduct pre shift inspections
- Lockout procedures and following the procedures correctly
- Use of blocking devices and proper installation
- Understanding the different types of guards and guarding devices and how they operate
- Understanding their role in an entrapment rescue situation
- Proper set up and clamping of dies in the machine
- How to adjust the air counterbalance system and the different types of counterbalance systems
- Housekeeping
- Material Handling basics
- Use of auxiliary equipment (feeders, straighteners, uncollars etc)
- Use of knock out bars
- Cushions and nitrogen springs
- Die protection

Press operators, die setters, supervisors, and group leaders, and health & safety committee members.
